Day 2 Today we leave for Trieste and Miramare Castle. In the morning, we take a guided walk through Trieste, where you can inhale a special type of air: it is a Central European city where great writers, such as James Joyce, Italo Svevo and Umberto Saba, have been inspired. It is a city of great passions, such as that felt for the sea that embraces Piazza d’Unità, or for coffee, which definitely has to be tried in one of the historic cafés in the city. Miramare Castle is situated a short distance from Trieste. Its location right above the sea offers a splendid view of the Gulf of Trieste. After visiting the sumptuous original interior, enjoy a little relaxation time in the beautiful park. Return to hotel in late afternoon and dinner.

Day 3 First of all on today’s trip, you will visit Aquileia, in the past a Roman colony and a major crossroads for the Danube and Balkan countries. The region is well known for its archaeological excavations. The archaeological museum and the basilica with its floor mosaics are particularly worth a visit. We will then move on to a wine-producing business to visit the cellar and taste some of the wines that they produce. We finish the day with a guided tour of Grado. Return to hotel in late afternoon and dinner.

Day 4 Immediately after breakfast, departure for Udine, with charming Venetian piazzas and ancient palazzos. The guided tour will help you understand its history and appreciate its delights. In the afternoon, we arrive at San Daniele del Friuli, perched on a hill with a breathtaking panoramic view! It is known throughout the world for producing the esteemed San Daniele prosciutto. Therefore, we cannot miss visiting a ham factory for a tasting, before returning to the hotel.

Day 5 Today we move on to Gorizia. Considered to be the “Nice of the Adriatic” for its mild climate, it was also the favourite destination of the Hapsburg bourgeoisie. The medieval castle with its enchanting village is a real gem: from here, the view sweeps over ranges of gentle hills and over the whole city, where medieval, Baroque and nineteenth century architecture live together in harmony. Here, you can also soak up the typical atmosphere of a border town: in Piazza Transalpina, which was physically divided by a wall until 2004, you can walk with one foot in Italy and one in Slovenia. Free afternoon and dinner in hotel.

Day 6 After breakfast, departure for return journey.
