From the great artists of the Renaissance who worked in the Marche region, such as Piero della Francesca, Lorenzo Lotto, Raffaello, Bramante and Leonardo da Vinci, there is a common thread to the artisans of high quality that enhances the ability to create small and great masterpieces. But we don’t want to forget the presence of great cooks, in their own way artists, too. You return home with many memories but also with a paper created by your own hands, during an interesting workshop in Fabriano, the small Italian capital of paper.

Day 1 – Arrival in the Marche region, hotel accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2 – Urbino – Fratte Rosa and the traditional Terracotta, Mondavio and the Rocca Roversca.Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Urbino (the ideal city of Renaissance), for a visit to the splendid Palazzo Ducale, a vital and cultural center of the court of Federico, today a Unesco heritage site. In addition to being one of the most important examples of Renaissance architecture, the building is home of the National Gallery of the Marche and preserves works of great value by artists such as Raphael, Piero della Francesca, Paolo Uccello, Melozzo da Forlì, etc. Crossing the ancient streets and alleyways of the city you will pass between the Cathedral, the Churches of San Domenico, Piazza della Repubblica, where every corner tells a page of history. Free lunch. In the afternoon we will continue in Fratte Rosa, a historic village famous for its earthenware: we will visit an artisan workshop where tradition will be told and the techniques of working with terracotta will be shown. Short transfer to Mondavio to visit the Renaissance village, with the beautiful and imposing Rocca Roveresca, designed and built by the Sienese architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini. Inside it has been set up a reenactment museum that reproduces the scenes of the life of the time and the armory of the Rocca, a short walk in the historic center with the historic Palazzo del Municipio and the convent of San Francesco. Visit of the historic “Apollo” theater built in the eighteenth century with only 80 seats, rich in decorations. It was built on a 15th century church and the theater stage was the apse of the church. The structure preserves the perimeter walls and the underground crypt of the ancient church. Return to hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 3 – Fabriano and the museum of paper and filigree.Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to Jesi to visit the city. Casket of history, art and culture in the middle of the hills, halfway between the sea and the mountain. Free lunch. In the afternoon meeting with the guide for the visit of Fabriano city of ancient historical origins whose maximum splendor was reached in the XIIIth century where the main historical nucleus of the city was developed, from the Loggiato di San Francesco, the oratory of Charity, the Palazzo del Podestà, the splendid Sturinaldo fountain in the central square (Platea Magna), the Palazzo del Comune and many other monuments of considerable historical importance. We will visit the famous Museum of Paper and Watermark for a journey into the history and techniques of processing this material. Return to hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 4 – Along the ancient Via Flaminia, Cagli and “carbonara lunch”. Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to Cagli, the center Metauro Valley, which has an interesting urban structure. There are many things to see: the ovoid tower, which is an element of the military fortress built by Francesco di Giorgio Martini, many churches including the Cathedral, San Francesco, Santa Maria della Misericordia, etc., the Palazzo Pubblico, and the beautiful Teatro Comunale, which still preserves nineteenth-century theatrical machines. Lunch in a typical restaurant to taste the delicious carbonara. Continuation towards Furlo, for a passage in the suggestive naturalistic area called Gola del Furlo, crossed by the river Candigliano that insinuates itself between the imposing rocky walls of the gorge. Short stop at the splendid Romanesque abbey of San Vincenzo. We will reach Acqualagna, the capital of the truffle. Meeting with the truffle master and his dog for a truffle hunting of the famous and precious “tuber magnatum”. After the research, transfer for a small tasting of precious truffle products and for the visit of an artisan laboratory specialized in the production of the famous tuber. Return to hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 5 – Breakfast at the hotel, departure for the return.
