The history of Mantua dates back to long time agoThe town was conquered by the Etruscan whose cultural influence on Mantua’s inhabitants was very strong. In the 13th century Mantua was a city-state, later in the 14th century it was ruled by Luigi I. Gonzaga bwho was given the honourable title of “Mantua’s General Captain”. In the 15th and 16th century, under the patronage of the Gonzaga family in the field of art and literature, Mantua became one of the most prestigious spiritual and artistic centres of northern Italy.
